MEDEL TICI UNICO

You may - or may not - have heard that MEDEL have launched (in October 2026) a new implant and processor called TICI UNICO.  TICI is their Totally Implantable Cochlear Implant.  With this CI system, there is no external processor, microphone, battery or coil - everything is under the skin. Patients are asking about it, but please note that it is not yet available on the NHS. At the time of this post (October 2026), USAIS is not implanting this device. Continue reading →

European Deaf Games – a story

Freya Jayne Chipperfield, at the age of 15, took part in her first international swimming competition.  She was then selected to represent Team GP at the European Deaf Youth Games in the Under 19s category. Freya makes good use of the manufacturer's swimwear products to protect her processor.  MEDEL tell me they would be happy to put any CI candidates in touch with Freya to discuss any concerns about using these accessories to keep your processor safe whilst swimming. Nucleus Smart App – How to pair it with your processor

The NEW Nucleus Smart App has been issued and if you download it you will need to pair it with your processor. Cochlear have shared these documents and videos for patients on how to pair their processor to the new app with both Apple and Android.   Those who are already using the previous app; have a contralateral hearing aid or bilateral implants seem to be the cases that are having more difficulty with this. The Osia bone conduction hearing implant

As well as Cochlear Implants, the Auditory Implant Service also helps patients who need a Bone Conduction Implant.  The Osia is one of the bone conduction hearing implants offered by the Service.  This device has been available for five years which mean it has been well and truly tried and test.  Cochlear have hosted this presentation for professionals about the Osia, which is available on their website.  However, I am sharing this here as well.
