Holidays and Loaner Processors

Holidays and loaner processors

Holidays for those using a Cochlear Implant take a little planning.  Users may benefit from taking disposable batteries and maybe some replacement parts.  USAIS can provide one box of disposable batteries each year free of charge to those users who do not usually use these.  You will have been provided with spares in your kit, it is worth getting these replaced when a part breaks.  Bear in mind that it is not possible for either USAIS or your Manufacturer to send replacement parts or processors to another country.

You may want to consider the advice regarding Theme Parks if you are planning to visit one of these.

Risks and precautions for Cochlear Implant patients on theme park rides

For those who travel alone, on longer or perhaps more adventurous journeys a loaner processor can be arranged directly through your implant manufacturer.  This will act as a spare processor, should your original become lost or damaged.  You will need to give it back when you return from your holiday and the cost will depend on your manufacturer and how long you need it for.

Contact your manufacturer to find out the price and how to arrange a loaner. There is a fee to pay and the manufacturer will contact the centre to request maps and send the processor out to patients directly, so this needs to be requested a few weeks in advance.  You will need to return the processor directly to the manufacturer when you return from holiday.

Here are the contact details for each manufacturer as well as some additional information where this is available.
