A Sound Free Concert with Advanced Bionics

The world’s first sound free concert brings a new listening experience to cochlear implant users.

London’s King’s Place hosted this event which was exclusively for cochlear implant users.  The music was streamed directly to sound processors rather than played through speakers.

Created by OutcomePath with support from Advanced Bionics and Phonak, the Sound Free Concert used implant technology alongside Phonak Roger Wireless expertise to deliver live, AI-generated music directly to the audience’s devices.  The music remained digital throughout the entire pathway, from composition to transmission, and was never audible as sound within the venue.

The music was interactive.  Audience members suggested real-time adjustments to the AI-generated composition, including more bass, stronger vocals and additional cymbals.

Nicole Da Rocha, Senior Consumer Engagement Manager, AB International, said the event was designed to place cochlear implant users at the centre of the experience and briefly allow hearing attendees to understand the exclusion many Deaf and Hard of Hearing people face in conventional sound environments.
