Welcome to AIS
The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS) was established in 1990 to help severely to profoundly deaf adults and children. Since the programme began at this centre the surgeons have implanted over 2,000 auditory implant devices.

The service is closed weekends and bank holidays and the service is adjusted during University Closure Days which occur around Christmas and Easter.
University closure days will be in place around the Easter Holidays.
There will be no appointments and you cannot enter the clinic without authorisation.
- You will be able to contact the repairs team on closure days if you need help with your equipment.
- Only emails to ais.repairs@soton.ac.uk and ais@soton.ac.uk will be opened on closure days.
- There will be no staff available over the weekend and bank holiday dates.
- University closure days are on 2nd April and 7th April 2026

If you have a medical emergency with a Cochlear Implant or Bone Conduction Hearing/Middle Ear Implant over the weekend, or at any other time when we are not open, please call 111 in the first instance before visiting A&E. If you do visit A&E, ask to see the on-call ENT doctor.
