Welcome to AIS

The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS) was established in 1990 to help severely to profoundly deaf adults and children. Since the programme began at this centre the surgeons have implanted over 2,000 auditory implant devices.

TEMPORARY CHANGES ARE IN PLACE FOR GETTING TO USAIS BY CAR

There are water repair works on the University site.  Please follow diversion signs.

Monday 10th – Friday 14th August 2026
In addition to the water repair works, there are planned resurfacing works to Hartley Avenue and Sirdar Road, thus rear access to the University site will not be possible.  Arrangements have been made for patients to be escorted to parking spaces.  Patients will have received either an email or text advising of arrangements.

From Monday 17th August 2026, all repair works on and around the Highfield University Campus will be complete.

For the usual information about USAIS patient parking, where there is a map, go to the Travel to USAIS page.

The following Information is available on the Contact + Times page

The service is closed weekends and bank holidays and the service is adjusted during University Closure Days which occur around Christmas and Easter.

If you have a medical emergency with a Cochlear Implant or Bone Conduction Hearing/Middle Ear Implant over the weekend, or at any other time when we are not open, please call 111 in the first instance before visiting A&E.  If you do visit A&E, ask to see the on-call ENT doctor.
