We are investigating ways to improve our service

My name is Isabel McGauley. I’m an Audiologist here at the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Centre (USAIS). We are doing a service evaluation/development project looking at better ways to assess how people do with one versus two cochlear implants. We have developed tests that we hope are more representative of real-world listening environments (e.g. hearing in a restaurant, hearing in a car etc). We are offering bilateral cochlear implant users aged 14 and older an additional appointment to assess their hearing with one versus two implants.

We are also conducting two national online surveys, one for cochlear implant users and the other cochlear implant professionals.  The topic is Should D/deaf adults in the UK be offered one or two cochlear implant/s
