NDCS Deaf Awareness Videos

The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) has many good resources on their website.

These five short deaf awareness cartoon videos are lovely and explain a deaf child’s communication needs to their friends and family.  All come with BSL and sub-titles.  These videos will help both children and adults understand and support their deaf friends and family members.

For example:

Tiger and Elephant’s special ears – Lion wants to touch the shiny things on Tiger and Elephant’s ears, but they’re not toys! Elephant’s hearing aids and Tiger’s cochlear implants help them access sound.

Other videos include

  • Don’t talk with your mouthful – the importance of clear speech
  • Getting Elephant’s attention! – getting a person’s attention
  • Shhh It’s story time! – ensuring good classroom acoustics
  • Elephant needs a quiet corner – listening is tiring and can be overwhelming

You will find many more resources on the site to support deaf children.
