Button Battery Dangers for children

Button batteries are in so many products; watches, greeting cards, key fobs and remote controls for example. Thanks to the tireless work of parent advocates; consumer products, such as remote controls, light-up shoes and greeting cards, face safety testing to ensure that younger children can’t access the batteries. Nevertheless children have died, and many have found themselves in accident and emergency departments, after swallowing button batteries. Continue reading →

Changes to Exit for Drivers

The demolition and building works on the University campus continue to challenge us.    Change to the exit route - after appointments. The route changed in July 2024. The exit is now via the route passing by Buildings 25 and 23 onto Granby Grove and Hartley Avenue. NDCS App to support parents and carers of deaf children

  In March the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) announced the launch of My NDCS, an App to support parents and carers of deaf children. NDCS have been able to create My NDCS so families can get free support, today and as their deaf child grows.  App features Find expert information and resources tailored to where you live and your child’s age. Lipreading Course Returns September 2024

The Lipreading course was a huge success when it was trialled just a few years ago.  USAIS Hearing Therapist, Samantha Johnson, is an experienced lipreading teacher and will be running a 10-week introduction to lipreading course on Wednesday mornings. The first of the ten sessions will start at 10 am on Wednesday 25th September 2024.  Each session will last for two hours; thereafter, sessions will, for the most part, be weekly. Continue reading →

USAIS Building Closure – Friday 21st June 2024

As the works to demolish the Faraday Building on the University Site continue, a new power supply has been established and the USAIS building will need to be connected.  This work will require Building 19, to be closed on Friday 21st June 2024. Join Patricia’s Hearing Implant Webinar – 11am 29th June 2024

Hosted by Patricia, a middle ear implant user who will share her journey and discuss how her implant helped her to cope with the symptoms of Ménière’s disease*.  Patricia was diagnosed with Ménière’s disease in her 20’s and was prescribed medication by her GP which was not effective. She later received grommets which helped to relieve the symptoms and she continued to use this form of treatment for over 20 years. Continue reading →
