Do you know about – X-Rays?
In this “Do you Know…” series of posts, we will explore what you can – and cannot – do if you have a Cochlear Implant. The answer is that you can do pretty much everything but sometimes a few precautions are required. Knowledge is power.
X-Rays are safe if you have a cochlear implant. The radiation does not harm the implant. However, you should do the following if any part of you is going to be x-rayed:
- Tell the radiographer that you have a cochlear implant and follow their instructions.
- Remove the external processor (and parts) and keep these away from the x-ray machine.
- Tell the radiographer that you cannot hear any sound once you remove the processor.
PLEASE NOTE MRIs are not the same a x-rays. X-rays use radiation. MRIs use strong magnets. Please contact your centre if you are having an MRI
