We need volunteer Young People (less than 8 years or more than 16 years)

BEARS has been a huge success. However, we are looking for more bilateral cochlear implant users aged under 8 years or over 16 years to come into USAIS and take part in this research project. BEARS is a research programme which uses games on an iPad and a virtual reality device. Marvel Sound Processor Group Tuning Session – Wednesday 17th April 2024

Do you use a Marvel sound processor? We can now do tuning and check your implant remotely, using the new AB Remote Support app on your smartphone. Your processors need to be updated to use this. This will have happened if you've been in clinic since 1st December 2023 (or had a processor sent to you). If you haven't got an updated processor, we are running a group session at USAIS today. Smoke and CO2 Alarms for those who may not hear them

If you are deaf or have hearing loss, there are smoke and CO2 alarm systems available that can help alert you when an alarm goes off in your home. Options include: Vibrating pads Vibrating pagers Flashing lights The British Standard (BS 5446 part 3: 2015) sets out the requirements that fire and carbon monoxide alarms for people who are deaf or have hearing loss should meet. USAIS is launching the NEW Telephone Workshop called Using Technology to your advantage. This half day course will be held in building 19 at USAIS in the University of Southampton on Wednesday 17th April 2024 at 10 am - 1 pm Picking up a telephone again after you have had a cochlear implant can be a daunting prospect, especially if you are not too familiar or confident with smartphone technology. BEARS virtual reality research project is now live The launch of the research project BEARS (Both Ears Training package) at the University of Southampton has been a huge success. We are now part of the National Research project looking at how an interactive virtual reality package of games can help children and young people to hear better with their cochlear implants.
