Did you know that magnetic toys can be dangerous?

Doctors warn of magnetic toy dangers as study reveals hundreds of children hospitalised The study, by the University of Southampton, is the first to investigate how many children under the age of 16 in the UK have been affected. Bone Conduction Hearing Implant (BCHI) Event for Audiologists – Save the Date

The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS) will be holding a meeting on Friday 3 October 2025 for the Audiologists involved in the clinical management of Bone Conduction Hearing Implants (BCHI). This is intended as a reinstatement of the previous meetings which used to be held at Cambridge, and is an opportunity for the clinicians from centres across the UK, to share BCHI clinical experience and knowledge. How USAIS is providing a service over the Easter Period 2025

Normally USAIS staff are working to support our patients from 8am - 6pm Monday through to Friday.  The team does not work weekends or bank holidays.  In addition, the University has closure days during the Easter and Christmas holidays during which staff need permission to be on site. During closure days, USAIS will be providing a repairs and telephone advice service.   The next closure days will be over the Easter period. Continue reading →

We are investigating ways to improve our service

My name is Isabel McGauley. I'm an Audiologist here at the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Centre (USAIS). We are doing a service evaluation/development project looking at better ways to assess how people do with one versus two cochlear implants. We have developed tests that we hope are more representative of real-world listening environments (e.g. hearing in a restaurant, hearing in a car etc). Continue reading →
