BSL Interpreter and Deaf Services Adviser
Auditory Implant Service
Location: Highfield Campus
Salary: £29,799 to £36,613 Pro rata per annum
Part Time Permanent (0.6FTE)
The role will be to enhance the service delivery of USAIS by providing sign language interpretation, communication support and advice.
You will support the patients and/or their families/parents/carers attending the Service to fully access the service by interpreting and translating spoken and written English into British Sign Language or Sign Supported English, and sign language into spoken and written English. In addition the role will include providing training and advice to clinical and administrative staff and developing materials to enhance the USAIS service in a variety of media.
An enhanced DBS ‘Disclosure and Barring Service’ check for regulated activity (formerly known as CRB) and the Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks will be required for this role.
To be successful you will clearly evidence:
- Experience of interpreting in a range of settings e.g. homes, health, educational and community environments, including medical
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of Deaf Culture and Deaf related issues.
- Excellent skills written and spoken English and interpersonal skills
- Registered Status in BSL Interpreting
As part of the interview process, you will be asked to prepare some materials and to participate in a practical exercise in order to demonstrate your specialist abilities and strategies.
